If you don’t know about Cyberforums, it’s okay. You just need to know that this is “Cyberforums” – literally an internet forum. Cyberforums represents a personal obsession and an unforgettable past for me, which is why I was willing to pay a high price for the domain Cyberforums.com.
A decade ago (in 2015), I pondered whether forums, a product of that era, would still exist in the future. Ten years later (in 2025), I can answer this question well: yes, they will exist, just in a new form.
It’s like the AI wave has arrived, yet we still haven’t achieved immortality, all diseases still can’t be eliminated immediately, the wealth gap persists, wars are increasing, and the world seems as terrible as it looks.
But none of that is that important. The internet is another time and space, where everyone can communicate and express their ideas almost equally. I think I won’t have much time in the future to ponder or hesitate, so while I can still write something, I’ll just write.
For what Discourse is and why we are using this platform as the official discussion area for Cyberforums, you can read this article:
In addition to Discourse, we will also develop bbPress-related services, which is the WordPress forum. As a native, lightweight forum, bbPress is still a good plugin.
Discourse is an open-source forum platform specifically designed for modern online communities. It has revolutionized the way traditional forums interact, integrating real-time discussions, intelligent content management, and an elegant user experience into one cohesive system. Built as a full-stack application using Ruby on Rails, Discourse features a fluid, chat-like conversation interface alongside powerful content moderation tools and data analytics capabilities. Whether it’s technical discussions in tech communities, customer support forums for businesses, or online learning spaces for educational institutions, Discourse delivers an exceptional experience through its responsive design and rich plugin ecosystem. Its unique trust level system and real-time notification mechanisms allow quality content to naturally surface, while its Dockerized deployment makes setup and maintenance remarkably simple.
From GitHub’s open-source community to Harvard University’s online classrooms, Discourse is redefining the form of internet forums, enabling valuable conversations to flow seamlessly on any device.
bbPress is a lightweight forum plugin officially released by WordPress, seamlessly integrating with the WordPress ecosystem, allowing users to quickly set up a forum without complex technical skills. As WordPress’s “officially endorsed” solution, it inherits the simplicity and ease of use of its parent—once installed, it works seamlessly with existing user systems and themes, making it especially suitable for adding forum functionality to websites already using WordPress.
bbPress follows a traditional forum structure (forums → topics → replies) with a clean interface and efficient performance, capable of running smoothly even on low-spec servers. While its features may not be as extensive as Discourse’s, it excels in having zero learning curve: familiar WordPress backend management, a vast library of compatible themes and plugins, built-in SEO support, and the ability to extend functionality through WooCommerce for commercial use cases like paid membership forums.
Typical users include: small discussion areas for personal bloggers, Q&A sections for course websites, and lightweight user communities for corporate websites. If you need a forum solution that “gets the job done,” bbPress is like the “Swiss Army knife” of forums—simple, reliable, and ready to use anywhere.
